Five young musicians. Rocking vocal chords. Guitars, bass, drums, an organ: The Who The What The Yeah play Rock’n’Roll that’s clanking, melodious and rumbling. Music inspired by 60s Powerpop and Protopunk, enhanced with elements of Indie- and Postrock, crowned with plenty of originality and forwardness.
The Who The What The Yeah were founded in 2006 in Vienna, their debut album Blackbox is a model performance: elaborate, one-of-a-kind and perfectly spelled-out. This is how a talented Rock band proves how Independent Rock can be convincingly recreated time and time again.
Once the well-known seems to dominate, there’s a surprising twist, and once they have overdone it the well-atuned band gets their act together again. The band manages to blend the otherwise unwieldy German lyrics in to the music’s flow. Their lyrics are compelling without being obtrusive, they have depth but are not cocky and yes, they are relaxed but by no means shallow. Catchy lyrics come along with memorable melodies. Top of the rocks - this album makes you an addict!

Das Debütalbum Blackbox ist eine vorbildliche Darbietung der 2006 in Wien gegründeten Band: konsequent ausgearbeitet, mit klarer Eigenständigkeit versehen und bis ins Detail perfekt durchformuliert. Hier beweist eine talentierte Band, dass sich Independent Rock immer wieder überzeugend neu gestalten lässt. Wo Altbekanntes überhand zu nehmen droht, findet sich eine überraschende Wendung; und wenn es mal ausufert, rudert die perfekt eingespielte Mannschaft in wenigen Zügen zurück in sichere Gewässer.
Der Band gelingt es hervorragend, den für Rockmusik so sperrigen Körper der deutschen Sprache in den Fluss der Musik zu integrieren. Ausgesprochen lässig wird ein ebenso aussagekräftiger wie unaufdringlicher Text nach dem anderen aus dem Ärmel geschüttelt. In die Tiefe blickend, ohne großspurig zu nerven. Entspannt, ohne belanglos zu sein. Texte, die sich einprägen, treffen auf Melodien und Hooklines, die hängen bleiben. Ein Album, das süchtig macht: mehr kann Rockmusik nicht leisten!
