Kicked off by a pounding drum it doesn´t take long to realise that with their second album Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts, a five-piece band operating out of Austria´s Burgenland, definitely manage to build and expand on their -great! - first album released in 2011. There´s no resisting the funky riff the band follows the first beats with, getting the album well under way and easily catching the listerner´s attention.

It sounds like Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts reveal themselves to be close relatives of early Blues Explosion or – even more vintage – the good old early Stones. Recording most of their material live in their own analogue studio, they prove to be a very focused band.

What adds depth and soul to the way this album unfolds is the way they sequence the tracks on this album, following fast paced stompers with moody ballads, bringing in a structure that works almost magically.

"Flowers Must Fade"? Truth, all flowers everywhere, at any time, will and must fade. But to do so, they must have been in bloom before. Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts are in full bloom with „Flowers Must Fade“!

Mit den ersten Tönen ihres zweiten Albums wird klar, dass es der fünfköpfigen Band mühelos gelingt, auf dem Debüt von 2011 aufzubauen und weiterzugehen. Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts sind mit „Flowers Must Fade“ musikalisch heller geworden, streifen etwa bei „Trojan Horse“ selbstbewusst bei der Blues Explosion oder den Ur-Stones an.

Es sind oft die Balladen, die am nachhaltigsten bewegen, Songs wie „Two Hearts“, „Scars Of Age“ oder „She Will Be With Him“ gewinnen der Idee des Engtanzes zu Heartbreak-Lyrics – die Lyrics haben den Blues! – einiges ab.

Zu 90 Prozent live in einem Analog-Studio eingespielt, zeigt das Album Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts als konzentrierte Band, die alles herausholt, was die Stimme, die Gitarren, der Bass, die Tasten oder die Mundharmonika in genau dem Moment hergeben. Dabei gelingen Hits wie „Until The End“, das von Bassistin Judith Filimónova geschriebene und gesungene „With You“, die Ernst Molden-Übertragung „The Seagulls“ (mit sehr gepflegter Gitarre von Robert Rotifer). Alle 10 Songs vom Titelstück und Opener bis zum abschließenden „Personal Savior“ haben einen eigenen, unverwechselbaren Charakter und ihre Funktion am Album, dessen innerer Zusammenhang eine Qualität für sich ist.

„Flowers Must Fade“? Sowieso, alle Blumen, überall, müssen und werden einmal vergehen. Aber dazu müssen sie vorher erst einmal geblüht haben. Bo Candy & His Broken Hearts stehen mit „Flowers Must Fade“ in voller Blüte!
